Amana washer stuck on sensing fill due to many reasons let’s briefly discuss below

Amana washer stuck and won't start
washer stuck problem

You load the washer, choose the cycle, and hit the start button but the washing machine doesn’t come on, fill,or even rinse.

If this is the issue you are going through with the washer, the following things are to blame:

  • Washer Problem with electrical issues
  • The indicator on the timer knob isn’t lined up properly with a cycle
  • The water inlet valve screen gets clogged
  • The water inlet hose may get kinked and you need to replace the hose
  • You forget to close the lid
  • Washer is overloaded

Many users don’t know what is auto-sensing mode on a washing machine especially, the water level part.

To begin with, verify the washer is getting power. In this case, ensure you plug the washing machine into a properly grounded 3-prong outlet.

In addition, make sure you don’t use an extension cord to plug the washer; instead use a dedicated electrical outlet.

Forget to mention that the fuse is in good condition and reset the circuit breaker if needed.

If resetting the circuit breaker for the washer doesn’t bring any luck, read our post- Why my Amana washer not reset after power outage?

Secondly, ensure you turn the Timer knob to the right a bit and pull it to start.

For a clogged inlet valve screen, what you need to is:

  • Turn off the water supply to the washer
  • Take the inlet hose out of the washer
  • Release any accumulated particles or debris from the inlet hose
  • Reinstall the hose and turn on water.

Additionally, inspect the water inlet hose for a tangle and straighten it up if needed.

Thirdly, check the lid and ensure you close it during operation.

And last but not least, never overload the washer; wash a small load.

This fixing guideline won’t work if you will find some faulty power supply with the drain pump and other parts.

Amana Washer Won’t Drain or Spin

Amana washer draining or spinning problem guideline
Amana washer draining or spinning problem guideline

Whether you have a washing machine from Amana or other brands, the Amana washer won’t drain or spin if you don’t maintain the washer drain height code.

Apart from this, operating the washing machine with the lid open and excessive sudsing can also prevent the washer from draining or spinning.

Amana washer troubleshooting not spinning or draining

You must follow the washer drain height code. The height of washer drain will depend on the type of washing machine you have, its brand, and drainage option.

No matter what brand’s washing machine you own, the washer drain pipe should be at least 24” up from the floor if you have a front-loading washer. And its height should never exceed 8 feet high.

On the other hand, if you have a top-loading washing machine, the drain should be at least 30” off the floor.

Moreover, your washing machine will hesitate to spin or even drain if you operate it with an open lid. The lid must be closed during operation.

Note: Don’t know how to troubleshoot when it is not opening up then read this: Why my Amana Washer lid won’t locking

door seal replacement

The washer door seal sometimes need to replace when junk and debris sit on the washer and make it not to spin properly. In that case, you need to replace the washer door seal.

Washer Odor

Washer odor means you don’t take care of your washing machine though it washes your whole family’s clothes.

amana washer odor troubleshooting

If you don’t clean Amana washer every month, the washing machine will smell bad.

Besides, you must leave the door open after each use to let the washer dry. If the door remains closed after using the washer, it will cause an odor.

Pro tip: Amana recommends users to use HE detergent. If you use non-HE detergent, it will cause a film residue, which can result in odor.

Where to put detergent in Amana washer

  • Open the washing machine’s door and remove clothing from the washer.
  • Add one AFFRESH washer cleaner tablet to the washer drum. If you want to use liquid chlorine bleach, just add ⅔ cup of the liquid to the bleach compartment by opening the dispenser drawer.
  • Close both the washer door and the drawer.
  • Choose the CLEAN WASHER cycle.
  • Now, press the Start button.
  • The cycle will determine whether there is any clothing or other items in the washer or not. As you removed clothing earlier, it will not detect any items.
  • Once the cycle begins, let the cycle complete.
  • After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly for several minutes to ventilate the washer.

Nonetheless, never forget to leave the door open after each use. It will ventilate your washer and keep the washer fresh.

Amana Washer Noise Problem

After the drain and before the spin, the air is being pulled through the pump and the gears are engaging. You will also hear a click of the upper part of the agitator. Such sorts of noise is normal.

Amana washer noise problem

But if you hear buzzing noise from Amana washer then you need to sort it out ASAP.

However, if abnormal noises coming from the washer, I bet the following culprits are responsible for the noise:

  • The load isn’t balanced
  • The washer isn’t leveled.
  • Loose or worn parts:
  • Unbalanced load
  • Foreign objects
  • Faulty drive belt:

Types of noise Amana washer:

You can hear knocking or thumping noise
Clunk or clunking noise
Rubbing or Grinding noise
Humming noise

Troubleshooting tips for these common Amana washer problems from our Amana washing machine troubleshooting manual:

Agitator: If the agitator is loose, it can make noise during the agitation cycle. To fix this, you’ll need to remove the agitator cap and tighten the bolt or screws that hold it in place.

If the agitator is worn or damaged, you will need to replace the agitator.

Loose Tub: If the tub is loose, it can cause the washer to vibrate and make noise. To check this, try moving the tub back and forth.

If it moves more than a quarter-inch in any direction, it’s loose and will need to be tightened or replace tub bearings

Motor mounts and bearings: Worn motor mounts and bearings can cause noise during operation.

To check this, try moving the motor back and forth. If it moves more than a quarter-inch in any direction, the mounts may need to be replaced. Worn bearings will also need to be replaced.

Evenly distribute the load: Make sure the clothes are evenly distributed in the washer. An unbalanced load can cause the washer to vibrate and make noise. If you notice the noise only occurs with larger loads of laundry, try breaking them down into smaller loads to see if that helps.

If your washer has a dancing drum then read the solution- Amana washer off-balance problem fixed.

Make sure the washer is leveled: Use a bubble level to check the washer from side to side and front to back. If the washer is not level, adjust the leveling feet until it is.

Check the drum and agitator: Look inside the drum and agitator to see if there are any foreign objects like coins, buttons, or small articles of clothing lodged in them. Due to this reasons, oftentimes the drum and Amana washer agitator not agitating properly. If you find any, remove them and run the washer again to see if the noise stops.

Check the drive belt: If the drive belt is worn or damaged, it can cause noise during operation. To check this, remove the front panel of the washer and inspect the belt for cracks or fraying. If you notice any damage, then replace washer belt.

To begin with, ensure the wash load is balanced and you don’t overload the washer with clothes.

Afterward, check the four feet of the washer and verify you installed them properly. If needed, tighten the nuts to secure the feet.

Also, make sure all the washer feet are level.

Amana Washer Leaks

The washer is generally leaking if the inlet hose connections are not secure & tight.

Amana Washer leaks

However, if the inlet hose connections are tight but water is leaking from the bottom, I highly recommend you inspect the household plumbing for leaks.

If the inlet hose connections come loose, follow the below steps to reinstall the hose connections:

1. Insert new flat washers into each end of the hose and seat the washers firmly in the couplings.

2. Verify the washer drum is empty.

3. Connect the hose with the red color indicator to the Hot inlet valve. It will make the attaching process easier if you attach the red coupling first. Screw on coupling by hand until it seats on the washer snuggly.

4. Now, connect the hose with the blue color indicator to the Cold inlet valve. Follow the same direction to let the hose seat on the washer firmly

5. Inspect the tightness of the hose couplings you attached by using pliers.

6. Attach the hot water hose to the hot water faucet and connect the cold water hose to the cold water faucet.

7. Turn on water faucets and check for leaks.

Dispensers Clogged or Leaking

If you have a front-loading washing machine from Amana, you may face this issue.

Dispensers clogged or leaking

The dispensers generally get clogged if you don’t keep the laundry products in the correct dispenser compartment.

Similarly, the dispensers will get restricted when the detergent type selector is in the incorrect position.

Start with ensuring that you put the laundry products in the correct dispenser compartment.

For example, add the powdered or liquid color-safe bleach to the Main Wash compartment. Ensure the powdered color-safe bleach you use matches the powdered detergent.

Next, make sure the detergent type selector is in the correct position. For instance, when using liquid detergent, it should be in a lowered position.

On the other hand, the powdered detergent should be in the upper position.

Load Too Wet

The load will become too wet if you use the incorrect cycle for the load being washed. Turns out, throwing a single item, bulky items, or overloading the washer are also responsible for washer off-balance problem

Amana load too wet

First off, ensure you use the right cycle for the load you are going to wash. I always recommend you choose the cycle with a higher spin speed.

Apart from that, never throw a single item or too bulky stuff. Otherwise, it will cause an imbalance.

But the best bait is to distribute the wet laundry in the drum and start the RINSE/DRAIN & SPin cycle.

If your load seems wet, take out half of the load from the washer and try again.

Residue or Lint On Load

Amana washer cleaning from residue or lint on load

This issue will occur if:

  • You sort the clothing improperly
  • You overload the washer
  • Paper or tissue left in pockets
  • You don’t use enough HE detergent
  • Wash water is colder than 60°F
  • You use a low-speed wash cycle
  • You used a fabric softener dispensing ball

To avoid lint or residue on clothing, you should sort the clothing like the lint gives (towel) from lint takers (synthetics). Also, I recommend you sort the garments by color.

Secondly, never overload the washer. Otherwise, the lint can be trapped in the load if you overload the washing machine.

Thirdly, before throwing the garments into the washer, ensure there is no paper or tissue left in the pockets.

Fourthly, Amana recommends its users add HE detergent. If you don’t use this detergent, the clothing can be stained.

Fifthly, the washer water temperature should never be colder than 60 F. Otherwise, the detergent you used will not dissolve completely.

Finally, add fabric softener to Amana washer because this will be leaving it fresh, soft, and wrinkle-free

Amana Washer Cloth Is Wrinkled

Does your clothing get wrinkled after washing it with your washer? If yes, I bet you misuse the washer.

For example, if you don’t unload the washer right off the bat once it stops, your clothes will get wrinkled.

Besides, choosing the wrong cycle and overloading the washer can also make clothing creased.

Let’s see what our Amana washing machine troubleshooting manual suggest to do:

  • Just unload your washing machine promptly as soon as the washer stops.
  • When it comes to selecting the cycle for the clothes being washed, use the Handheld/Delicate or another cycle with low-spin speed to reduce the risk of wrinkling.
  • And last not the least, never overload your washer with garments.

Cycle Too Long

The cycle takes too long when the washer display shows the code SUD.

In addition, the cycle will need a long time to complete if you wash a large load using a gentle cycle.

Furthermore, if the load causes too much imbalance, it will prolong the cycle time.

The code SUD indicates the washer detects excessive sudsing and a suds routine has begun to destroy the extra suds. And this routine will extend the cycle time.

Secondly, if the load is large, you should choose a high-speed spin cycle. It will ensure an even wash for your clothes without increasing cycle time.

And lastly, never overload the washer and sort the clothes to avoid too much imbalance.

Door Locked At End of Wash Cycle

The door will be in lock mode at the end of the Wash Cycle because of the remaining water after draining the washer.

Fortunately, you can easily fix it.

Just select the RINSE/DRAIN & SPIN to remove the water remaining in the washer. It will cause the door to unlock at the end of the cycle.

Amana washing machine troubleshooting manual for drum loose problem

Why does my Amana make a banging noise during the spin cycle?
This may mainly happen due to the Amana top loader washing machine drum being dropped or slipped and needing to be re-attached.

Amana washer loose drum
A picture of the loose drum

Turns out, you are going to experience your Amana Washer off-balance problem.

However, it’s also possible that there are other issues causing the banging noise during the spin cycle, such as damaged suspension springs or worn bearings.

However, here are some general steps that may help:

  • Unplug the washing machine and turn off the water supply.
  • Remove any clothes or water from the drum.
  • Remove the front panel of the washing machine by unscrewing the screws at the bottom of the panel and lifting it off.
  • Locate the drum and inspect the mounting bolts that hold it in place. Tighten any loose bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Check the suspension springs that hold the drum in place. If any of them are broken or damaged, they will need to be replaced.
  • Look for broken bearings, shock absorbers, or damaged suspension rings and dampening straps. Replace them ASAP.
