Faulty Lid Lock Switch
The lid lock switch is essential for detecting whether the Lid is closed or open. If the switch is faulty or damaged, the lid lock may engage and isn’t closed suitably.
In that situation, replacing the switch or Amana washer lid reset may be necessary to solve this issue.
Cycle in Progress:
If your washer is in the middle of a cycle, the lid lock will engage to prevent you from opening the lid. Even it may potentially be damaging the machine or be injuring you.
The lid lock will release automatically when the cycle is complete.
But if your washer won’t release or unlock after the middle or end of the wash cycle, perform the below steps:
- Unplug your washer or disconnect the power.
- Now, stay for a few minutes to allow it to reset.
- Plug in the washer or Connect the power again.
- Run the ‘Drain or Spin’ cycle.
- Once it is complete, the lid should release or unlock.
- If not, search for professional’s help.
Control Board Issue:
A malfunctioning control board may cause the lid lock to won’t lock/unlock and prevent the washer from operating correctly.
In that case, resetting the washer or replacing the control board may be necessary to unlock the door/lid.
Wiring Issues
Loose or damaged wiring connections can cause problems with the lid lock mechanism. Check the wiring connections to confirm they are secure correctly and not damaged.
If it is, you may need to change them with a new one.

How to replace the lid switch to unlock it?
- Take out the screws and unplug your washing machine from the power outlet.
- Take out the screws that hold the lid lock mechanism in place. Use a screwdriver to do it.
- Now take out the Lid and locate the lid switch.
- Now take off the faulty lid switch.
- Replace the lid lock mechanism with a new one. Plug it back in.
